Objects of Terror Round Duration: Match Flow Explained

What Shapes a Round's Length?

Objects of Terror round duration matters when you're squeezing in a match, especially because getting eliminated doesn't always mean you're finished. Recovery Centers can bring dead Contestants back, and the last surviving Contestant receives a buff through Last Object Standing.

The Public Beta uses a 1v7 asymmetrical horror format, with up to eight players per server. The Co-Host hunts Contestants as Announcer, MePhoneX, or Evil Leafy. Contestants have character abilities, items, and revival mechanics to help them survive and reach an exit.

Think about your time commitment in terms of those encounters: surviving a chase, helping a teammate return, and escaping are different parts of the match. A teammate's elimination can still lead to another rescue rather than the end of their participation.

Individual attack timings matter during those chases. In Beta 1.0.1, Announcer's Slice cooldown increased to 3 seconds, while its damage dropped from 30 to 27.5. RUN received a shorter, telegraphed windup with limited turning control. Blocking RUN negates its base damage, but its poison still applies. Watch the direction Announcer faces during the windup before choosing your route.

Budget Cutter also gained a brief, telegraphed windup and deals less damage when used repeatedly. Announcer is forced into shiftlock while aiming it, revealing its intended direction. MePhoneX's MeTech now consumes more meter, preventing endless flight outside MeCloak. These changes affect the attacks and movement you need to account for while staying alive.

Recovery Centers Keep Teammates in Play

Recovery Centers revive dead Contestants. If you're eliminated while teammates remain alive, a recovery can put you back into the action.

Objects of Terror — Recovery Centers Keep Teammates in Play

For surviving players, that creates a decision between helping the team and protecting their own escape:

  • Locate Recovery Centers while exploring. Remembering where one is gives you a destination when a teammate needs a revival.
  • Check the Co-Host's position before attempting a rescue. Plan your approach around the active threat.
  • Use your character's tools to support the attempt. Contestants include support, defender, trapper, and stunner playstyles.

Don't confuse a revival opportunity with guaranteed safety. You still need teammates who can reach a Recovery Center.

The Public Beta includes 8 types of items scattered around each map, alongside character-specific tools. Dr Fizz and Candle have support and defender playstyles, while Test Tube combines support and stunning. Blocky combines traps and stuns, and Golf Ball combines traps and support. Use those roles to decide how to contribute while teammates are under pressure.

Beta 1.0.1 also changed several support interactions. Lightbulb's Dive now shoves Contestants and Co-Hosts. When it hits a Contestant, Lightbulb takes no damage and the teammate receives a burst of Adrenaline. Adrenaline now provides Pitfall Resistance, which prevents Contestants from dying to pitfalls and lingers longer after application. Dr. Fizz now gains Pressure even while stationary, with greater gains when moving horizontally faster than base running speed.

Last Object Standing and the Escape

Objects of Terror — Last Object Standing and the Escape

Last Object Standing activates when all but one Contestant has been eliminated. The remaining Contestant receives a buff, and supported characters get a unique song during this phase.

Keep your escape route in mind when you become the final survivor. Use the buff to help you survive the encounter and reach the exit.

The Public Beta's character-specific music has exceptions: Candle, Leafy, Lightbulb, and Snowball do not yet have Last Object Standing themes. The activation condition still centers on the remaining Contestant; the music is an accompanying feature.

Manage your ability timing during the escape. In Beta 1.0.1, Teardrop's Throw cooldown increased from 5 to 7.5, with a cooldown of 15 on hit. Roll increased from 12 to 18, but resisting an attack puts it on a shorter cooldown of 10. Leafy's knife stun now depends on hits against the Co-Host rather than knives thrown. Missing earlier throws no longer reduces the initial successful hit's full 1.25-second stun.

Door contact also received a specific fix in Beta 1.0.1: Leafy's hurtbox was adjusted so the character can touch the exit door from the front. If you're playing Leafy, approach the front of the door when making your escape.
