How Recovery Centers Work
Objects of Terror recovery centers let dead Contestants return to the match, giving your team a reason to keep fighting after someone goes down. A surviving teammate can use a center to bring them back. That makes finding a rescue opportunity an important part of surviving the Co-Host.
The beta uses a 1v7 format, with a maximum of 8 players per server:
| Role | Players | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Contestants | Up to 7 | Survive the Co-Host |
| Co-Host | 1 | Eliminate every Contestant |
Recovery matters because an elimination does not always mean a teammate is out for the rest of the round. If you're still alive, a center gives you a way to help someone rejoin the action.
Automatic recovery centers also provide a way back. Coordinate with teammates who have one before committing to a trip across the map.

Finding a Rescue Opportunity
Learn where centers are while exploring, before a teammate needs reviving. Keep track of nearby routes and where the Co-Host is chasing; reaching a center becomes harder to plan when you're already under pressure.

Public Beta's map lineup includes Underground Factory, 5B, Noctiluca Cavern, Evil Forest, and Purgatory Mansion. Underground Factory draws from BFDI, while 5B, Noctiluca Cavern, and Evil Forest draw from BFDIA. Purgatory Mansion takes its inspiration from II2.
Use these habits to coordinate rescues:
- Call out a center when you find it. Give teammates a shared landmark they can recognize.
- Say who is attempting the revive. Avoid having several surviving Contestants head toward the same rescue without communicating.
- Warn teammates when the Co-Host is nearby. A center's location is only part of the decision; the immediate threat matters too.
- Ask about automatic recovery. Check whether a teammate can bring the eliminated player back before crossing the map.
If the Co-Host is chasing you, try to draw the pursuit away from a teammate approaching a center. Treat that as a rescue opportunity, rather than a guarantee that the revive will succeed.
Recovery and Last Object Standing
Last Object Standing activates when all but one Contestant has been eliminated. The remaining Contestant receives a buff, and the mode plays a character-specific song where that character has a theme.
Candle, Leafy, Lightbulb, and Snowball do not have Last Object Standing themes in Public Beta. The mode still buffs the remaining Contestant.
If you're the final survivor, weigh a rescue attempt against the danger around the center. Use your position and knowledge of the Co-Host's location to decide whether you can make the attempt.
Practice Rescues in a Free Private Server
Use a free private server to explore with friends and test recovery mechanics outside a normal public match. Locate centers together, practice communicating their positions, and work out routes between recognizable landmarks.

In BETA 1.0.1, private servers have a player requirement, but you can disable it through the private server panel. Use that option when practicing with a smaller group.
Practice movement with the same update's changes in mind. The jump cooldown increased. Adrenaline now acts as Pitfall Resistance, which prevents Contestants from dying to pitfalls, and that resistance lingers longer once applied. Test your jumps and escape routes alongside recovery practice so your movement accounts for the current cooldown.
If you're practicing with Lightbulb, test Dive with a friend. In BETA 1.0.1, it Shoves both Contestants and Co-Hosts. Hitting a Contestant causes no damage to Lightbulb and gives the teammate a burst of Adrenaline; hitting a Co-Host deals 5 damage to both players. On impact, Lightbulb becomes Invincible for the rest of their Ragdolled duration, and both players are Shoved away from each other. Account for that displacement when practicing near a center.
Open the in-game info menu for its basic mechanics explanations and character guides. Pair that reading with practice so you understand both how recovery works and how your chosen Contestant can help during a rescue.
